The talking ant story

The myth: Ants in Quran

Here is the brief story in Quran, a very short story , it is "An-Naml" , The ant verses 16, 17, 18 and 19 :

16. And Solomon succeeded David. He said, “O people, we were taught the language of birds, and on us has been bestowed of all things. This is indeed a real blessing.”

17. To the service of Solomon were mobilized his troops of Jinns , men and birds, and they were all kept in order and ranks.

18. Until, when they came upon the Valley of Ants, an ant said, “O ants! Go into your houses (habitations), lest Solomon and his troops crush you without noticing.”

19. He smiled , amused at her speech, and said, “My Lord, direct me to be thankful for the blessings you have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do good works that please you. And admit me, by Your grace, into the company of Your virtuous servants.”

It is near to impossible to give an accurate estimate on the average size of an ant colony throughout the entire world. There are over 12,000 different species of ants in the world, each with different colony structures, and countless other variables to consider. A more reasonable approach is to estimate the size of a colony for a species that has actually been studied. The common harvester ant, which includes many different species and is found throughout the United States has been studied enough to give a reasonable estimate. The average Harvester colony size has around 4,000 ants (1) but the greatest colony that we have found to date was on the Ishikari coast of Hokkaidō, Japan. The colony was estimated to contain 306 million worker ants and one million queen ants living in 45,000 nests interconnected by underground passages over an area of 2.7 km2 (2). on the other hand ants are deaf. there have been some studies that say ants can hear sounds with a specialized organ located on their gasters. but further studies has shown otherwise. Specialized mechanosensory hairs are exteremely sensitive to slightest air movements. The most sensitive arthropod hairs known were described in spiders, caterpillars, and the cercal system of crickets. with regards to ants such high-sensitive mechanosensory hairs, which would be physically responsive to slight air movements in a sound field, have not been found in any species investigated. All ant mechanoreceptor hairs are stiff contact sensilla, morphologically diffrent from the mechanosensory hairs. (3) the study that claimed ants can hear has been widely used by Muslims and it after it have been proven wrong it leaves the question "Did they lie?".

Research shows that ants, use several pheromones or other signals in organizing their foraging system. (4) Ants, being social insects, form highly organized societies on the basis of very close communication between individuals, mediated by pheromones and other chemical substances. Information about the genomes of several ant species has been obtained to date, and genes linked to chemosensitivity in ants have been shown to be diverse. (5) There are no studies that show any species of ants can see so far.

The ants can't recognize you. Here is a simple experiment that any one can do:
approach a group of ants. kill a few ants. do it around 100 times during a few months. If ants can recognize you they will run away. the ants wont run away so they can't recognize you.

Leave the fact that how an ant can recognize Solomon's army with its compound eyes for now. By studding the facts you realize that ants don't talk. they are communicating through pheromones and other chemical substances. The ants are deaf and they can't hear other ants. So even if an ant talks other ants won't hear it.

As I said ants communicate with pheromones and these pheromones are short signals that indicate danger, food, being wounded, etc. They do not have a word based communication system. It is impossible that ants have a pheromone for "Solomon's army" or "without noticing". The ant can't have such pheromones because it is useless to them. Their language is super simple and beyond primitive. Their brains are much smaller than us. Also it is impossible that there is a pheromone or a mix of pheromones that can mean that sentences. There are only 90 million words in Arabic and ants have no hormone variety  near that number. clearly the ants can't pronounce that sentence.

The ants do not have a good eyesight like we do and they do not have a brain like we do. ascribing this action to an ant is as illogical as a grasshopper driving a bus. This is completely illogical that an ant sees the army of Narnia unless they are very close and it is completely impossible for ants to have Solomon in their vocabulary of scents.

If we say that a 100 thousand ants lived in that valley of ants if an ants want to warn them alone it will take many days to inform every ant.

As we have observed ants, ants do not run away from a road or a crowd unless something touches them or someone hurts them. In many cases ants even attack you when you go inside their territory. This story therefore goes out of the question of being real.

The other objection to this unrealistic story is that Solomon have heard the ant. How can you hear the speech of a mute?

As the story goes on in later verses after this you find out that the army is summoned for nothing because the Solomon has no objectives to do yet. You realize that Solomon has gathered his forces to see all of them are present and there you will find more illogical behaviors and tales to the story. But we are now focused on the ant story and will write about the rest of it later in a separate post.

The biggest issue is the use of words, if this is all knowing God why he didn't use the term "the ant laid a scent of distress" ? there are Arabic words for it (6). It is unacceptable that an all knowing God makes a huge mistake like this. If this book was the word of God he would have said the correct terms and would create a notable miracle that would prove him to be a true God.

Long story short: The speech of the ant proves that this book (The Quran) is not from God. Allah is a man made God. Why ? because the word of God must not have any mistakes.

If this is only a myth, God must make his point that this is a myth. Now many Muslims believe that ants talk resisting all logic, reason and science. all just because of this big lie in the book. Many try to falsify science to show this story is logical. This story is not logical and have been proven to be wrong. And even one mistake in the Quran leads to whole Quran being a big lie. It is impossible that the only book narrated by God to have mistakes and flaws. This is not the only flaw you find in the Quran, there are many others. Stay tuned!
